Retail trade is one of the most dynamically developed sectors of economy in the Republic of Buryatia.
Trade infrastructure has been developed dynamically in recent years in the Republic of Buryatia: more than 200 trade objects have been put into operation.

Spreading of trade net.
The republican operators are spreading trade nets, among them are FC " Titan ", FC " Absolut ", JSC " Gevs ", FC " Stam ", JSC " Bin ", ðG "Smith", jewelry company " Sapphire ", JSC ? Beer of Siberia ?. To spread trading areas and to improve technological process the majority of large subjects of retail trade independently involve investments, use own means to improve the level of the organization of trade in cities and regions of the republic.
Realization of projects of modern formats was proceeded by opening an industrial - trading complex ?Mega Titan?, ðC "ëaxi-Smith", ðC "Mega-technical equipment", ðC "Mega-furniture", ðC "þbsolut", a supermarket "Satellite", a trade center "Zodiac" in Bauntovsky Evenkinsky region, ðC "Myr" in the village of Kizhinginsk, a trade center "Yubileyny" in the Bichursky district and many others.

The rate of development.
The analysis of the development of trade infrastructure in the republic shows essential changes in the sphere of the organization of trade. The competition in trade has allowed to improve to a great extent the level of service of the population, giving a buyer an opportunity to choose not only goods, but also services in trade enterprises of a various format.
Nowadays, the network of the organizations of retail trade in the republic includes 3963 units. The total area of enterprises of retail trade is 222933 sq.m. In total, 230 organizations of retail trade were opened in the republic last year, among them more than 180 in the districts of the republic. The largest number of objects, namely 55 units were put into operation in Ulan-Ude.
Opening new objects has allowed to increase security of trading areas counting on 1000 inhabitants and to achieve its level to 213 sq.m. (109 % to the standard), in comparison to 2002, when this parameter was 159 sq.Ë

Foundation of a network.
Creation of a network of modern shops takes place on the principle of correspondence of structure and types of the enterprises to the basic models of consumption of the goods and services in groups of the population with different level of incomes and forms new priorities among consumers regarding rising culture of trading service. Opening such shops solves the problem of creation of a network of highly effective trading enterprises with wide assortment of the goods and specialization on groups of the goods.
To provide the territorial and price availability of trade service, location of trading objects is improved, the same is with material base, in addition to it, variety of the enterprises of retail trade develops.

Development of trade in the districts of the republic.
The following branches of the wholesale centers and trading networks are opened in some districts of the republic, as FC "Titan" in Gusinoozyorsk, Kyakhta and Selenginsk, the company MV-MARKET in Selenginsk (Kabansky district), JSC "Gevs" - in Khorinsky, Barguzinsky, Zakamensky, Kabansky, Kyakhtinsky districts, the FC ?Absolut? ? in the Kabansky district.
At present, shops in districts of the republic are occupied in selling the combined assortment of the goods, which is rather poor, so the Committee of trade, public catering and business MER and SC of ïà carries out a systematic work on rendering assistance in rising efficiency of trade organizations, regarding specialization on groups of the goods and rendering additional services. Also, much attention is paid to the questions of trade service of the poor groups of the population.
Due to this work inhabitants of the districts of the republic got an opportunity to buy goods in self-service shops with rich assortment of goods (eg., opening of a supermarket in Kyakhta), they can purchase expensive goods in credit, shops provide free-of-charge home delivery of furniture, home appliances, and also their installation.

Prospects of development.
Considering prospects of development of the consumer market in the republic, it is possible to state that growth of standard of living of the population, attraction of investments into the branches focused on the consumer market, reduction of rates of inflation will provide further development of infrastructure in the following directions:
- some more trade organizations of modern formats will be put into operation;
- markets will turn into modern trading complexes;
- mechanisms of coordination in development and location of objects of retail trade, including network structures will be improved;
- location of small retail trading network will be regulated;
- equal competitive opportunities for development of large, average and small enterprises will be created;
- there will be support of the republican structures organizing own goods manufacturing networks;
- improvement of professional skills and training of personnel in the sphere of consumers? market of services.
In 2006 a shop for support of socially - unprotected layers of the population is planned to be opened in Kizhinginsky district, in Tarbagataysky district they are waiting for building a trade complex, in Kyakhtinsky district - the opening of the market on realization of agricultural production is planned, in Ulan-Ude - ðIC "Mega-Mag", the Trading complex of Open Company "Zhasso" and a number of others.
