Industry

Industry is the main branch of the economy of the Republic of Buryatia: its share in total regional product is 21,9 %, in receipts of tax payments in the consolidated budget of republic - more than 30 %, in number of working population - 19,5 %.

For 10 months in 2005 industrial enterprises shipped goods of their own manufacture on the sum of 25599,6 million roubles, the index of industrial production by January, - October 2004 was 105,9 percents. 

In the structure of industrial production the greatest density is occupied by machine-building and metal-processing (37,3 %), electric power industry (29,2 %), nonferrous metallurgy (11,3 %), food industry (8,6 %), wood, timber-processing and  pulp-and-paper industry (5,2 %), fuel industry (3,9 %).
Machine-building and metal-processing are represented by manufacturing of helicopters and spare parts for aviation engineering, electric motors of an alternating current, engineering equipment for light industry, TVs and personal computers, devices and means of automation, home appliances, welded metal constructions (Open Society « Ulan-Ude aviation factory », Open Society « Ulan-Ude instrument-making association », Joint-Stock Company " Ulan-Udestalmost ").
Non-ferrous metallurgy is represented by gold mining branch (Open Society " Buryatzoloto "), energy — by manufacturing electric and thermal energy (Open Society « Gusinoozyorskaya power station »), fuel industry -  by mining stone and brown coal (cutting deposit "ðugnuysky", Open Company " Buryatugol ").
The enterprises of wood complex are focused on manufacturing timber, saw-timbers, cellulose, package cardboard, paper (Open Society « Baikal wood company », Open Society « Selenginsky PPF »).
The industry of building materials is specialized in production of cement, building lime, war materials, modular ferro-concrete designs,  building bricks, slate, rubble and gravel (Open Company « Timluysky cement plant », Open Society « Timluysky factory of asbestos and cement products », Open Society « Management of the quarry « the Tatarsky klyuch »).
In light industry the main volume of production is made by woolen fabrics and yarn, full and felt footwear, overalls ( Open Society “Naran”).
The structure of food-processing industry has meat, dairy, spirit, alcohol, flour, cereals and fish branches, manufacturing of confectionery and macaroni products, soft drinks (Joint-Stock Company "þmta", Open Society "Buryatmyasoprom", Open Society  “Ulan-Ude macaroni factory”).

Agricultural and industrial complex.

Agricultural and industrial complex in the Republic of Buryatia is a diversified system, which produces about 10 % of total regional product. 10,5 % of the working population are engaged in agriculture.
There are 249 collective agricultural organizations, 2585 peasants’(farmers’) economies, 155 thousand private part-time farmsteads, 18 large plants of food and  processing industry, including dairy, meat, flour-grinding and baking branches in the republic.
The land fund of Buryatia exceeds 35 million ha, among them 5,4 % are agricultural fields.
Plant-growing is represented by crops of grain, fodder, vegetable cultures and potatoes. From 320,7 thousand ha of the whole land under crops 212,6 th. ha are occupied by grain crops, mainly, by spring wheat, oats and barley. The basic lands under crops are concentrated in the central and southern areas of the republic, and also in the suburb area of Ulan-Ude. By November 1, 2005,. total gathering of grains in economies of all categories was 90,7 thousand tons (78,7 % by November 2004Ö.), potatoes - 211,1 (100,2 %) and vegetables - 94,6 thousand tons (100,4 %).

Traditional branch of agriculture of the Republic of Buryatia is stock-breeding. The main directions are dairy and meat cattle-breeding, sheep-breeding, pig-farming and poultry farming. By 01.11.2005 the number of cattle in economies of all farmers was reduced to 2,3 % in comparison with 2004 and was 357,7 thousand heads, including cows - 134,7 thousand, pigs - 98,7 thousand, sheep and goats - 239,5 thousand heads.
Natural and climatic conditions of Buryatia  allow completely to provide the republic due to its own manufacture by meat and dairy products, potatoes, vegetables of local assortment, eggs and fish production.
For the period of January, - October 2005  agricultural production was made for the sum of  8197,5 million roubles or 101,7 % in comparison with the similar period of 2004.

Building complex

Building complex of the republic includes 67 large and average organizations of contract activity and about 500 small enterprises and individual businessmen. The number of employed in building branch is about 19 thousand people, that is 6,9 % from the total  number of  people occupied in the economy of the republic.

The volume of works executed by the kind of activity "Construction", for 10 months of  2005 has been 2351,6 million roubles, or 89,5 percents compared to the level of January - October 2004.

On the territory of the republic the construction of 1079 apartment houses (1170 apartments)has been completed, with common area of 98,2 thousand sq. meters, that is 102,4 percents in comparison with the similar period of the last year.
The branch of industry of building materials is an industrial and material base of construction and provides a building complex of republic with the main building materials - cement, ferro-concrete products and designs, wall materials, heat-isolated products, roofing materials etc.
In the republic  formed and realized complex of measures directed to creation of new manufacturing  building materials, engineering rearrangement, updating of the equipment and support of serviceability of the enterprises of industry of building materials.
With the purpose of raising the level of providing population by dwelling, the republic has developed the system of mortgage housing crediting. In 2001-2004Ö.Ö. within the framework of realization of the program of mortgage crediting per each rouble of budgetary funds, in average 2,42 roubles of out-of-budget means were attracted, that testifies to high investment potential of the mortgage. In total for the period of 2001-2004 mortgage loans for the sum of 113,8 million roubles were lent.

Transport

The transport complex of the republic includes 6904 kms of bus routes, 1374 kms of railroads, 4 airports, 56,6 kms of tram lines. These communications transport every day over 100 thousand passengers.
The network of highways of the republic is 14097 kms, including 6297 kms of  highways of common use.
The volume of freight traffic in the republic for the period January, - October 2005 was 7320,9 thousand tons, including railway transport which transported 90,5 % of cargoes, automobiles  - 6,9 %, air transport - 2,6 %.
3 cargo railway operating companies were founded with the total number up to 400 platforms that allowed to increase the volume of rail transportation of timber to export by 16,5 %. 
As a result of purchase of a new movable complex  deterioration of the park of passenger buses  was reduced from 92 % up to 68,4 %. 7 more republican routes were opened in addition to it.
Within the framework of the development of the airport complex of Ulan-Ude, works on reconstruction of a runway of the airport are planned in 2006.
The government of the Republic of Buryatia has rendered support  as indemnification of losses from transportation of passengers  by suburban railway, automobile and air transportation.

Communications

Communications is an intensively developing branch of economy.
For 10 months of 2005 the volume of rendering services of communication has been 1477,7 million roubles, rate of growth in comparison with 2004 has been 144,7 %.
Providing the population by telephone sets was in 2004 on the city telephone system - 25,5 un./100persons, mobile telephone system - 10,8 un./100 people; the forecast for 2005 on the city telephone system - 32 un./100people, a mobile telephone system - 10,9 un./100 people.
By providing the rural population the republic exceeded  an average Russian parameter by 1,6 devices per 100 persons.
In the previous years wireless communication successfully has developed in the republic. The list of the rendered services of mobile communication constantly extends. In the market of services of the network of Internet of the republic  4 providers are working.
The embracing of the population by television announcement is the following, by program of ORT - 99,7 %; program of RTR - 96,8 %; the program of the Buryat state telebroadcasting company - 69,5 %.
