Social and economic position of Republic of Buryatia in January - August 2004
In January - August, 2004 the industrial organizations of the Republic of Buryatia made the production for the sum of 17,5 billion roubles; the index of physical volume of industrial production was 105,1 %. The growth of production was observed in electric power industry, fuel industry, mechanical engineering, metal processing and polygraphic industry.
The decrease of volumes of manufacture was marked in ferrous metallurgy, non-ferrous metallurgy, wood and timber-processing industry, the industry of building materials, light-, food-, flour-grain and mixed fodder industries.
3,5 billion roubles of investments into a fixed capital (with addition to private business, individual construction and informal economy) were allocated to the development of economy and social development, that is 38 % less in comparison to the level of the similar period of the previous year. For 8 months of the year 2004 according to the contracts of the construction plan, works were carried out for the sum of 2.3 billion roubles. In comparison with the analogous period of the last year there is a decrease of volume of planned works for 19 %.
684 apartments with total area of 61,2 thousand sq. meters were exploited, that is 104 % comparing to the level of exploited dwellings during the similar period of the last year.

The gross volume of rural production in January - August 2004 was 5,52 billion roubles or 113,6 % concerning the corresponding period of 2003. The economies of the population made 90 % of the whole volume of production in agriculture.
In January - August 2004 the turnover of retail trade was 17,8 billion roubles, that is10,2 % higher than it was in the same period of the last year.
Real money incomes in January - August, 2004 in comparison with the similar period of the last year increased by 1 % and in August, 2004 by 2,7 %.
The contents of real available money incomes in comparison with January - August, 2003 decreased for 0,1 %. The purchasing capacity of money incomes of the population concerning food stuffs raised on the majority of the observed goods, except for bread and rice.
Substantial increase of tariffs for municipal services affected decrease of purchasing capacity.
According to the preliminary data the level of poverty in the Republic of Buryatia for the 1-st half year raised in comparison with the corresponding period of the last year for 0,3 percentage points and comprised 40,1 %.
The number of the population of the republic has been reduced to 2,9 thousand persons and on January, 1, 2004 there were 974,3 thousand people. Negative dynamics of demographic parameters has been preserved. From January till July, 2004 the natural decline in the number of the population was 1,2 thousand persons, for the corresponding period of 2003 it was 1,0 thousand people.
The migratory outflow of people was 1,8 thousand people, a bit higher than it was last year ? 1,7 thousand people.
The number of economically active population in August, 2004 was 489 thousand people, that is more than 85 % of economically active population. At the same time 71 thousand people were unemployed, that is 14,5 % of economically active population.
In the end of August, 2004, 12,5 thousand people were officially registered as the unemployed.
